Drummers of The Four Directions

White Buffalo also created a film called Drummers of the Four Directions, and invited four drummers from different cultures to come and share about their drum. The film was funded by the Manitoba Arts Council, and premiered on October 27th , 2021. The film opens with teachings from Elder Calvin Pompana, followed by words and songs by: Phoebe Man – Chinese Drum & Taiko; Coffieman (Evans Coffie) – African Djembe; Walking Wolf Ray (Co-Co) Stevenson – Indigenous Hand Drum; and Blair McEvoy – Celtic Bodhran. The film closes with all four drummers, drumming in harmony, in an improvised drum and song jam, led by the Indigenous drum.

The Cultural Fusion Project

The year 2022 was the birth of the Cultural Fusion Project, coordinated by Melissa Atkins. This project brought together 5 established singer/songwriters to represent their different cultures, and produce a co-created original song. In less than 14 hours, these musicians created a beautifully moving piece that was filmed and aired online, as well as presented as a live concert.
